To avoid problems due to undetected obstacles or inattentive
people, the robot is equipped with tactile plates all around its body,
mounted on its doors through four switches. The robot can detect a contact
with a human or an object when the force exceeds ~20 Newton at any point
of the plate. The shock is absorbed by the mean of a piece of foam covered
with cloth fixed on each plate.
If such a contact occurs, the robot brakes by shortcutting
the phases of its motors. At full speed (0,4 meter/sec) the distance necessary
to stop is lower than 10cm.
